Research Misconduct

Advance Sustainable Science, Engineering and Technology (ASSET) takes all allegations of research and publication misconduct seriously and handles them following the COPE flowcharts. This policy applies to manuscripts under review and to published articles.

What counts as misconduct

  • Fabrication – making up data or results;
  • Falsification – manipulating research materials, equipment, processes, images or data so that the research is not accurately represented;
  • Plagiarism – using another person's ideas, processes, results or words without proper credit, including text recycling;
  • Duplicate or redundant publication – submitting or publishing the same work in more than one journal;
  • Authorship manipulation, undisclosed conflicts of interest, citation manipulation, peer-review manipulation, unethical research involving humans or animals, and undisclosed or deceptive use of generative AI.

How to report a concern

Anyone (readers, reviewers, editors, authors) may report a suspected case to the Editor-in-Chief at asset@upgris.ac.id. Please give the article title or submission ID, a description of the concern and any supporting evidence. The identity of the whistle-blower is kept confidential.

Procedure

  1. Initial assessment – the Editor-in-Chief checks whether the allegation is specific and supported by evidence.
  2. Investigation – the Editor gathers information (e.g. similarity reports, raw data, review records) and may consult members of the editorial board or independent experts.
  3. Author response – the corresponding author is informed of the concern and given the opportunity to respond, usually within 2–4 weeks.
  4. Institution – where needed, the authors' institution or funder is asked to investigate.
  5. Decision – depending on the outcome: no action, correction, expression of concern, rejection of the manuscript, or retraction of the published article (see Correction and Retraction). In serious cases the authors may be barred from submitting to ASSET for a set period.

The process is carried out fairly, confidentially and without presumption of guilt.
