Improving Preschoolers’ Concentration Through the Application of the 5E Learning Cycle Model

Abstract

The ability to concentrate is an essential prerequisite for preschool children to achieve optimal learning outcomes. However, in practice, children’s concentration levels are often not yet fully developed. This study aimed to analyze the improvement of concentration ability in children aged 4–5 years through the implementation of the Learning Cycle 5E model at Takhasus Al-Qur'an Kindergarten in Pemalang. This study employed a quantitative approach using a One Group Pretest–Posttest Design involving 31 children in group B selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire measuring concentration indicators, including attention focus, attention span, and the ability to follow instructions, and were analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The results showed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores, with a mean difference of 21.404. These findings indicate that the implementation of the Learning Cycle 5E model contributes to improving early childhood concentration. This study provides practical contributions as an alternative instructional strategy to support the development of concentration in early childhood education.
